SPF, DKIM and DMARC

The three DNS records that let a receiving server verify mail claiming to be from your domain.

SPF lists which servers may send for the domain. DKIM signs the message so tampering is detectable. DMARC tells receivers what to do when SPF or DKIM fails, and where to send reports.

All three are necessary and none is sufficient. Authenticated spam is still spam; what authentication buys is that your legitimate mail is not discarded for looking forged.

What GTM does about it

The vendor returns the records when you attach a sending domain; you publish them and verify. Verification is a live check against the vendor's API, so pending means pending.
