Data retention
How long personal data may be kept before it must be deleted, and the rule that computes the date.
Retention is a policy plus a mechanism. The policy is a number of months; the mechanism is a scheduled job that actually deletes. Most tools have the first and not the second.
The column the rule reads from is the whole ballgame. Anchoring to last-updated means an actively used record is immortal, which is exactly the pattern regulators fine.
What GTM does about it
A daily batched purge, computed from the collection date. Suppression rows are exempt from every purge. A suppression list a purge can empty is a list that eventually mails somebody who asked you not to.
