Email verification

Checking that an address exists and will accept mail, before you send to it.

Syntax, domain and MX checks are cheap and catch obvious problems. SMTP-level verification is more accurate and more intrusive, and many providers now block it, which is why catch-all domains report as unknown rather than as valid.

Verification matters because bounces damage sender reputation disproportionately. A 5% bounce rate is not 5% less delivery. It is a reputation event.

What GTM does about it

Sourced contacts arrive verified as part of the reveal. Uploaded lists and aged records re-verify separately, and a bounce suppresses the recipient and skips their remaining queue rows immediately.
