Compare

Every page here opens by saying where we lose

Not modesty. A comparison a competitor's customer would call unfair is a page that loses the deal it was written for, and anyone doing a real evaluation has already read the other side's version of the same table.

How these are written

Four rules, and the first one is the hard one

  1. 01

Describe them from their own positioning

Not from a caricature. If the sentence would make their marketing team wince at its inaccuracy rather than at its bluntness, it is wrong and gets rewritten.

  2. 02

Say what they are better at, first

Before any claim of ours. Every page on this site opens with a paragraph that would be at home on the competitor's own site.

  3. 03

    Compare architecture, not adjectives

Faster, smarter and more powerful are not comparisons. A database constraint versus application logic is.

  4. 04

Mark the rows that are neither

A lot of differences are design choices rather than advantages, and a table that scores every row is a table that has stopped being useful.

Not on the list

If your shortlist has something we have not written up, tell us and we will

The pages that exist are the tools that keep coming up in conversations. If yours is not one of them, that is a gap in our reading rather than a judgement about the tool.

The table is not the evaluation. Twenty minutes with both is.
